Your Medical Information Bureau Record (MIB) Insurance companies share information with each other on you. They do this to detect and deter fraud of applicants attempting to get life, health or disability insurance.
You can get this record for free if:
- You were declined for life, health, or disability insurance
or:
- You were charged an extra premium
and
- The insurance company provided you with a notification which identified MIB as an information source.

Once the underwriting evaluation of the application has been completed, member companies are required to report to MIB a brief coded resume of conditions and findings using one or more of about 230 codes. The most frequently reported medical conditions are obescity, high blood pressure and electrocardiogram results. Non-medical data such as a bad driving record, hazardous sports or aviation activity may also be reported.
