Enrolling In A Health Insurance Policy
Not many people know how to buy health insurance and there's lots of things they'd rather do. Because your agent does it day in and day out, he should help you at every step of the way to enroll.
When buying health insurance:
- Notify your doctor that you are changing your health insurance. Call him and request that he forward your records promptly.
- Make sure your doctor excepts your new coverage before you join
- Inquire if your doctor gets paid within 45 days as the law allows. You could be responsible if they don't!
- Go through several different policies and a variety of deductible and no deductible plans
- Find out the maternity benefits if your wife is of child bearing age
- Make sure local hospitals are in the PPO network
- Disclose any health issues so that you don't get declined
- Consider a trial application and informal inquiry if you are unsure of your medical status
